BooloominbahUniveristy of New England, Armidale
Booloominbah was built between 1886 - 1888. It is a magnificent former gentleman’s residence in the fashionable English style, surrounded by beautiful grounds. Today it houses the principal administration offices and meeting rooms of the University of New England. The grounds of Booloominbah are the site of the Annual UNE Graduation ceremonies.
Cathedral Rock National Park70km east of Armidale on the Waterfall Way(Armidale-Grafton Road).
The park provides many opportunities for bushwalking, bird watching and camping. The 360 degree view from the top of the rock is magnificent and well worth the climb. Camping and picnic facilities are located at Barokee and Native Dog Creek Rest areas within the park. Camping fees apply.
Dangar GorgeTake the Dangarsleigh Road out of Armidale then turn left into Dangars Falls Road
Dangars Gorge is not only a natural wonder but has Aboriginal and pioneering history. In 1860 it was even crossed on a tightrope by a daring Italian ! Walking tracks take you around the edge of the gorge and onto lookout platforms that offer breathtaking views. Visitor facilities include a shelter shed with picnic tables, gas barbeques.
Ebor Falls70km east of Armidale on the Waterfall Way(Armidale-Grafton Road).
Ebor Falls are where the Guy Fawkes River takes its first spectacular plunge off the tablelands. The falls continue to flow, even in dry periods. Facilities include picnic tables, pit toilets, BBQ, information display and lookout platforms with easy access. Camping facilities are available at the Chaelundi Camping Area.
SaumarezOn the southern outskirts of Armidale 3km from the CBD
The homestead was built in 1888 as a single storey residence and vastly extended 18 years later. Saumarez Homestead remains largely intact from this period and still contains the original furniture, curtains, ornaments, paintings, engravings and other decorations from 1906. It contains fine examples of stained and etched glass as well as the original staircase.
